This is a portrait of me painted by my dear friend Joan Cimyotte the woman who inspires me the most, especially in writing and idea creation. (if you love romantic comedies you have to get her book.
This painting is going to be shown at a local coffee shop on South Pearl, called Stellas.
You can see Joan's work on her website (that I designed for her.
It is a happy Monday - It is suppose to get up to 50 degrees. It might melt some of this snow. Though, that in and of itself can be a muddy mess. But, i welcome it for a change as I am already sick of winter. The duck on a sheep is by artist Carry Jones Murtha of Snippet Girl. I love her, the work she does for the kitties, her style and her art.
Ivy does too
Here is my little and oldest gal. She was bottle fed and is a little bit of a snob. But, we love her.
It is Saturday, I have to decide what (out of all my projects) I will accomplish today. Do I sew, paint or do both.
What I should be doing is writing the next chapter of my children's book. These two are my main characters. Sam the protagonist and Winter's Queen my antagonist. What a fun little story I am creating.

I am procrastinating putting my little handmade tree away. It's just so lovely there! Don't you think?
I have been feeling a bit cooped up lately. The bad weather makes me want to hibernate. I have been eager to go shoot photo's so I am just going around the house capturing my spaces collection of decor and sharing on Instagram

Winter is definitely FINALLY here. My beloved red jacket is out and I am loving it. Lots of people think red is my color. They are quite complimentary. I do not know why I always take pictures of me with out any lick of make up!
One of my many hobbies is shooting photo's of some of my favorite things Hotrods, Flowers, Typography and the Color Red
In the studio today, taking photo's of art and trying to get motivated to do some upholstery! Sometimes sewing drives me crazy. That damn machine has a mind of it's own and being the control freak that I can be...well, me no likey!! That little contraption is a two bit wh*$@ in my book.
Ha, but I am being candid.
I have started something new for my advancing age - ha - finally a gluten free-vegan-zero animal testing -chemical free product line. Arbonne - A multilevel marketing scheme too that I am no doubt going to sign up for to get the 35% off. I do believe in this product, so who knows where that will go. But, either way I hope I can start stopping that pesky time clock on my skin.

I really have not been the type to make new years resolutions. For me, I feel a person should always strive to be or do better no matter if it is a new year or not. That being said, however, I do have some things on my bucket list - and now that I have more time going into 2015 I hope to get some of that accomplished. Like reading my good friends novel Minor' Pass. Joan is releasing her second part of the book this winter and I have yet to read the first half!
While I was in my bedroom complicating my new year, I decided to take some photos. I love the romance and girly feeling you get from my art collection. Thankfully, I have a husband who lets me decorate however I want. At least I do not strewn pink in every room. I have my limits!
The weather here has gotten colder after a pretty mild fall and early winter. I am not a big fan of negative zero - honestly is there anyone out there that is? I'd rather be skiing in the mountains, but oh well. The only thing I get out of the house for this week is the grocery and pet supply store! Burr, I am fine staying up in my craft room creating magic! lol
I am totally digging my Christmas present - Jimmy Choo Wellingtons!
I hope you all stay warm and enjoy the first day of 2015!

It was a busy year for me. I have finally accomplished my goals from 2009 and turned my Associates degree into a Bachelors in Graphic Design. You can see my work from the last year at Carter Design Studio blog. Let's face it though, I am just an artist..a creative person and all around designer whether it is Interior Design, Graphic Design, Upholstery or Furniture Design, Doll Design, and lets not forget Fiber Art. Goodness, that is a long list of things I do. Oh but I love to learn new things and work with my hands.
I feel great going into 2015 with a large to do list to get my craft room finished and to start making art again. It is an exciting time and I cannot wait. Next up for 2015 is to finish my children's book. Some of the characters in this book are in the next photo.
My office and craft room are years of collecting. I think I started as early as 2004. WOW that is over a decade of art collecting, furniture upholstering, slip covering and not to mention how many homes these pieces have seen during that time. It was always the same blue on the walls, but this house's 900 square foot studio space is way too big to paint any times soon. But it is the largest studio I have ever had and that is exactly what I wanted. An office area and a craft area. I do not like them to commingle, but then again I am a designer!

I finished the slip cover which to me is appalling. I do love upholstery and would of been better off. I have training in that not slip covering lol. I want my chair to be snug like upholstery. Oh well.
I am dreaming about wainscot in this room. Oh how it would look so nice.
I am dreaming about wainscot in this room. Oh how it would look so nice.
It wouldn't be an artists studio without her cats to keep her company.
Today I am tackling a to do list that is pretty big.
Finishing many projects that I started a week ago. The design phase is almost over. I was thrilled to find a little daisy trim in another doll stash in storage. It is 5 inches short, so I will have to hand stitch each flower on very reminiscent of doll making, which is probably why upholstery is easy for me.
I also am wrapping up the 2014 with a look back at some vacation time I spent with my niece. We traveled to Vail, The Rocky Mountain National Forest, 6 Flags, The Garden of the Gods and not to mention the mall and a water park. All fun times for a teenager. They grow up so fast.
Then there is my precious little girl, Ivy Bee. What a joy (and a pain) to have her as my youngest baby. She is technically a twenty something young lady in human years, but she still picks on her older siblings. Little Diva

There has been a ton of creative energy going on here. I decided to redo the little make up chair turned painters chair.
The chairs are coming along. Mixing scrap fabric can be difficult but rewarding. I feel it challenges me creatively and the product there fore becomes of a kind.
I am also painting that drab wood cabinet that holds my fabric. It blended in with the wall. Well, now it doesn't. The plan is to paint some folk art on the panels as if looking outside. You will see.
I am an avid animal lover. I have a lot of wildlife in my backyard and as such I have many squirrels that lost their homes this fall, so I have had my husband build me some squirrel houses. Now, I am offering them to others. Because I want those cute squirrels to be warm and snug this winter.

I finally finished my first rag quilt turned slipcover, this morning. The colors and patterns I chose, while in a fabulous fabric store in Ohio called Anna Louisa's, really brought in the colors from the room.

There was no big tree this year. Somehow the stand got lost in the move last year. But at least I still have my gorgeous table topper from years past. This has got to be one of my most cherish Christmas Artwork. I would love to keep it out all year round.
On to my present! I love my Whimsical Art by Shannon Nicole. A great addition to my collection.
While others nap, I work! Besides cooking a lovely meal, guess what I did on Christmas day? I worked on reupholstering some chairs in my craft room. These colors fit my office color scheme, so this makes me sooooo happy!!!
All the fabric and trim are left overs not leaving me enough for all four chairs, so I am being very creative with my pattern selections. I think they will be fabulous, don't you?
My chubby Cecelia supervising my project.
I ran out of check fabric, so I had to improvise with others scraps...
We went to D Bar in Uptown to have a yummy meal, sparkling wine and dessert before the Candlelight service at the Methodist Church downtown. Of course I had to have the Gluten Free lava cake. Which was awesome. Dave had his favorite too..Chocolate Cake and shake. Church was packed so we went to Larimer square to walk off our food! The lights are always a joy for me during the holidays.
